Passport Requirements for Traveling to Bali
Your passport is the most important travel document. You need to make sure that it meets the following criteria before you travel:
- At least 6 months validity from your date of arrival in Indonesia.
- At least two blank pages for entry stamps.
Failure to meet these requirements may result in denied entry.
Bali Visa Options
Depending on your nationality and travel plans, you may need a visa to enter Indonesia. Here are the key options:
Visa on arrival (VoA)
The Visa on Arrival (VoA) is available to citizens of 97 countries, making it a convenient option for many travelers visiting Indonesia.
It allows visitors to stay in the country for up to 30 days and can be extended once for an additional 30 days, providing flexibility for those who wish to extend their trip.
Electronic visa on arrival (e-VOA)
The Electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VOA) can be applied for online before your trip, allowing for faster processing. It also allows for a stay of 30 days, and can be extended once for an additional 30 days.
This option is perfect for travelers who want to save time and avoid long queues at the airport, making it a convenient choice for a hassle-free entry into Indonesia.
Other visa types
For stays longer than 60 days or for non-tourism purposes (e.g., business or study), apply for a different visa, such as the B211A Visit Visa, through an Indonesian embassy or consulate.
Proof of Return or Onward Travel
Indonesian immigration requires travelers to provide proof of a return flight or onward travel. This guarantees that visitors have plans to leave the country within the allowed period. If you cannot present this proof, immigration officers may deny your entry.
Bali Customs Declaration Form
Before entering Indonesia, all travelers must complete a Customs Declaration form. Here’s how it works:
- Submit the form within 72 hours before departure.
- After submission, a QR code will be generated. Present this code to customs officials upon arrival.
While you could also choose to do this at the airport, it’s recommended to fill out the Bali Customs Declaration online to avoid queues and problems on arrival.
SATUSEHAT Health Pass
As of 2024, you also need to fill out the SATUSEHAT Health Pass before entering Indonesia. You’ll need to submit the form within 72 hours of departure.
Make sure that all details are accurate to avoid delays during health screening at the airport.
Tourism Levy
As of February 14, 2024, all international visitors must pay a tourism levy. Payments can be made online or upon arrival at Bali’s airport.
This tourist tax is specific to visiting Bali. You do not need to pay it if you’re only visiting another part of Indonesia.
Keep the payment receipt as it may be requested during your stay.
Additional Recommendations for Travelers
While not mandatory, these measures can help ensure a hassle-free trip:
- Travel insurance: Strongly recommended with comprehensive medical coverage. Private healthcare can be expensive in Bali.
- Accommodation proof: Some airlines and immigration officers may request confirmation of your hotel booking or accommodation in Indonesia.
- Medication documentation: If carrying prescription medications, bring the original prescription. Verify with the Indonesian embassy to ensure the medication is legal in Indonesia.
- Health precautions: For travelers visiting areas outside major cities, consider vaccinations for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and Typhoid.
By making sure that your documents and requirements are in order, you can avoid complications and focus on enjoying your journey to Indonesia.
